Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering

Position Announcement

The Department of Engineering at Dixie State University in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Mechanical Engineering. The preferred candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, with expertise in the areas of robotics/mechatronics/controls. Note that candidates with expertise in the areas of thermal sciences/fluids/thermodynamics/heat transfer or nano/micro fabrication are not being considered at this time. Responsibilities

Teach 24 workload credits per academic year (12 in Fall Semester and 12 in Spring Semester). Engage in six (6) workload credits of service per academic year. Service may include, but is not limited to, research, service to the department or university, professional development, STEM outreach, and industry collaboration. Maintain regular office hours for courses, labs, and/or design projects. Maintain availability for and assist with end-of-year design competitions/showcases. Perform defined campus-wide faculty duties, including holding office hours, attendance at department and division meetings, service on committees, outreach programs, and other responsibilities as defined by university policy. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field required. Applicants who are ABD are invited to apply if the degree will be completed prior to August 2022. Demonstrated ability to effectively teach students in and out of the classroom. A teaching demonstration will be required of all finalists prior to hire. Excellent communication skills. Ability to work well with students and other faculty members. Candidates with industry experience are preferred.

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2022, with pay & benefits starting July 1, 2022. Annual salary of $76,000+ depending upon qualifications & experience; additional compensation available for summer/overload teaching.
