Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems Inc., a Terran Orbital company, is seeking a motivated and experienced Sr. FPGA/Hardware Design Engineer at our Irvine, CA location. Tyvak is a leading worldwide provider of nanosatellite and microsatellite vehicles, services, and solutions to Commercial and Government customers.
As a Sr. FPGA/Hardware Design Engineer, the candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team to develop innovative solutions. The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience designing complex FPGA based systems, ranging from deriving requirements, defining the architecture, implementing new designs, integrating commercial IP blocks to circuit design, DVT, Debug and sustaining efforts, and supporting multiple programs and designs. Senior FPGA/Hardware Design Engineer will report to the Electrical Engineering Manager. Responsibilities
Take an FPGA design from concept to prototype and final production-grade design Adapt existing FPGA designs to new program requirements Work closely with electrical, software, and systems engineers in all phases of the project, including requirements definition, prototyping, qualification, and production Drive requirements from systems design, including device selection, interface definition, and carry out trade studies Requirements verification in simulation and hardware Cooperative debug, test, and requirement verification activities Creation of technical documents including block diagrams, architecture diagrams, design descriptions, test plans, and technical presentations Contribute towards continuous technology and process improvement Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Bachelor or Master's Degree in engineering, science, math, or a related field 8+ years of professional experience in FPGA and digital circuit design. Must have hands-on ownership of designing FPGA based solutions, ranging from deriving requirements, architecture, implementing new designs, integrating IP blocks and circuit design Familiarity with Xilinx Vivado FPGA tools Familiarity with both VHDL and Verilog languages Working knowledge of embedded software/firmware in C/C++ Ability to carry out bring up and hands-on testing of custom FPGA boards Familiarity with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and related test equipment Ability to work across teams and organizations to complete tasks, meet milestones, and deliver hardware solutions
Desired Skills/Experience
Experience with Xilinx FPGAs, SoCs, and RFSoCs Experience with GPUs, Computational Storage Units, and other specialized processing units Understanding of Digital Signal Processing algorithms, development, and simulation Understanding of RF signal processing (PLLs, mixers, modulation products, filters, amplifiers) and related issues Experience development hardware for Space Applications Familiarity with RADAR concepts, application, and issues Experience with standard interface protocols: SPI/QSPI, I2C, UART, and Ethernet Experience with high speed interfaces such as PCIe, Aurora, and JESD204 Experience with high reliability design techniques in FPGAs Familiarity with Altium / Orcad / DxDesigner schematic capture and layout tools Familiarity with CM tools such as SVN or GIT is desirable Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment Knowledge of space domain and architectures for space-based remote sensing systems Recent experience supporting U.S. defense or intelligence customer
