Technical Author

At Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology, we provide tools for the engineering of micro- and nano-structures, with customers using our process solutions to research and produce materials and semiconductors vital for everything from medical devices and diagnostics, to electric cars and quantum computers.

We are recruiting for a Technical Author for a permanent position to be based in Yatton, Bristol. This position will help us improve customer satisfaction and engagement by providing concise technical documentation to support our high tech product range. You will conduct research and analyse complex technical information to produce technical documentation enabling customers to operate, successfully and safely, a particular piece of equipment or to increase their knowledge of a particular technology.

Key Responsibilities:
Produce, develop and maintain clear and concise technical documentation to support our high tech product range including Upgrades.
Research, analyse and understand the technology and applications for which documentation is to be produced.
Collaborate with engineers and managers to clarify any technical queries.
Produce and provide any photographs or illustrations required.
Liaise with subject-matter experts including Sales and Marketing colleagues to generate documentation for project launches and internal/external customer support.
Test and update the written material with users.
Maintain robust documentation systems, including version control, editing and accuracy, keeping up to date with latest technology and products.
Ensure technical information is organised, managed and published as per the required timescales
Upload master files to server and download for translation into different languages.
Direct and co-ordinate external providers, where applicable such as printers, translators, etc. to ensure production integrity.
All employees have a personal responsibility for their own health and safety and for that of others who may be affected by their actions and behaviour.

Education / Qualifications:
A recognised technical authoring qualification (ISCT, NVQ, Diploma, etc.) degree or equivalent.
High level of competence using PC based applications; desktop publishing, photo editing / digital imaging software, spreadsheets, including Adobe Framemaker, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office
Ideally, your background will be in either the semiconductor, electro-mechanical or scientific sector, as experience or writing documentation for scientific instrumentation is highly desirabl
Demonstratable experience in a technical author role.

Professional Skills/ Abilities:
High levels of technical writing capabilities and an ability to understand the function and performance of products
Good proofreading skills
The ability to research and analyse complex technical information.
The ability to follow company documentation procedures and corporate style.
Understanding of manufacturing and design practices and processes.
Presentation skills.
Experience in presentation of information for training, installation, and maintenance purposes.
Ability to deliver to deadlines.
Ability to communicate and have discussions at a technical level..
High levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

Personal Qualities: Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate the flow of information with engineers, technicians, and manufacturing staff. Excellent and clear written and spoken communication skills. Detail conscious, methodical and thorough. A good team player. Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail. Able and willing to travel on occasions.
