Job title: Associate (or Senior) Editor

Department: Nature Reviews Bioengineering

Reporting to: Chief Editor

Location: London, Berlin, New York

Nature Reviews Bioengineering – launching in January 2023 – is recruiting an Associate or Senior Editor with a background in bioelectronics and/or robotics. This position is an exciting opportunity to join the launching editorial team of Nature Reviews Bioengineering and to aid in the shaping of the journal. Nature Reviews Bioengineering will publish Reviews and Perspectives, covering a wide range of topics, including biomaterials, bioelectronics, robotics, bio(nano)technology, synthetic biology, biomedical engineering, medical devices, delivery systems and regenerative medicine.

Nature Reviews Bioengineering will also publish Comments and other front-half articles, as well as editorial content, creating a discussion forum for the bioengineering community.

We are particularly interested in applicants with a background in biosensing, bionics, robotics and/or technology transfer, but we would welcome applications from outstanding candidates in any area of bioengineering.

This is a demanding and intellectually stimulating role that calls for a keen interest in the practice and communication of bioengineering. The successful candidate will, therefore, be motivated, have broad scientific knowledge, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a keen eye for new developments and research trends. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Editor to commission articles, edit manuscripts, organise peer review, write for the journal, and develop the journal’s website and social media presence. A key aspect of the job is liaising with the research community through meetings, laboratory visits and international conferences. Therefore, a willingness to travel (when appropriate and required) and meet scientists worldwide is essential.

Candidates must have a PhD in a bioengineering-related discipline, and ideally relevant post-doctoral or industry experience; a demonstrable ability to edit text for sense, clarity, factual correctness and language; and experience that indicates a proactive approach and excellent organizational skills. Editorial experience is beneficial but not required.

The position is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, starting early 2022, and will be located in our London, Berlin or New York offices.

To apply, please submit a CV, a research highlight (approximately 400 words) on a recent relevant paper in the literature, and a cover letter explaining why you are interested in the role and including your salary expectations and notice period.

All employees are currently working remotely. Once the office re-opens, all employees will be expected to be based in the office in line with our working from home policy.
