Material Scientist

Postdoc or Research Assistant in Electrical Engineering with expertise in nano-material-polymer composite based bio-sensors at Queen's University


We are looking for a Research Assistant in Electrical Engineering with expertise in nano-material-polymer composite based bio-sensors to assist in developing advanced polymer bio-sensors for head-worn audio devices. The position is available as early as January 2022. The position will be at Kingston at Queen's University in collaboration between AAVAA and the Ameri Nano Research Group. With AAVAA, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team building a unique listening device that allows people to hear what matters by processing their surrounding sounds based on input from their brain and bio-signals. Our goal is to give everyone control of their auditory environment, enhance the sounds they want to hear, and suppress distracting noise.

The applicant should have a PhD, or be enrolled in a master's or bachelor's program at Queen's University. Basic skills:


Advanced material synthesis of biocompatible materials (composites, fibers, polymers, etc.) with the goal of attaining improved material properties and/or additional functionality (thermally/electrically conductive materials, nanocomposites, sustainable polymers, etc.) Materials processing and testing Biosensor materials development and characterization Knowledge of bio-sensors for electrophysiological recording and materials, finishes, and specifications (SAE, ASME, ANSI, etc.)

Preferred skills:


Material chemistry, physical properties characterization, and processing, of polymers Design for manufacturability practices for low and high volume output Material development for manufacturing of healthcare and/or medical devices Microfabrication and clean-room processing
