Position Details The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Lethbridge invites applications for a tenure-track position in any area of Biochemistry. This appointment would be at the Assistant Professor level. Minimum qualifications include a doctoral degree. The successful candidate will be expected to mount an externally funded research program and will also contribute to teaching core courses in the Biochemistry program. Evidence of teaching experience would be an asset.

Our Team The ideal candidate will be joining the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry team which consists of 22 members (13 research-active faculty members and 9 instructors). The Department is most proud of the state-of-the-art Science Commons Building, which contains shared and dedicated lab space for the new position. This new 38,500-m2 building houses facilities and laboratory spaces that foster collaborations within and among disciplines. Descriptions of the Department and the Facilities, plus links to the relevant webpages, can be found on our University and Department web site. Shared facilities available in the building include high-field NMR, mass spectroscopy (Orbitrap FusionTM TribridTM coupled to UHPLC and nano-HPLC units for LC-MS/MS analysis), a bioinformatics core facility, next generation sequencing facilities (Illumina, Nanopore PromethION), a nucleic acids synthesizer, cell culture and gene expression assays facilities, and the Synbridge synthetic biology maker space. The University of Lethbridge is home to the Alberta RNA Research Institute (ARRTI), the Southern Alberta Genome Sciences Centre, the Canadian Centre for Hydrodynamics, the NSERC CREATE-funded RNA Innovation program, the Canadian Centre for Research in Advanced Fluorine Technologies (C-CRAFT), as well as a number of other research institutes. Members of the Department lead provincial and national scientific networks, notably the Northwest Biophysics Consortium and the Alberta Bioinformatics Network. Candidates in research areas that can contribute to the mission of ARRTI or of other UofL research institutes are particularly encouraged to apply. In addition to the University of Lethbridge, Southern Alberta is home to a number of important research facilities, including a major Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada research station, the National Centre for Animal Diseases of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and the applied research laboratories of Lethbridge College.

The University of Lethbridge offers competitive benefits. Hiring salary will be in the range of $70,000-$85,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
