Immersive STEM Education Program Coordinator

SUMMARY


This position is for a part-time coordinator who will assist with current and emerging programing within the ASRC IlluminationSpace Hub. Programming includes both virtual and in-person immersive learning experiences through zoom, VR, AR, motion sensing technology, touch-screens, projections and hands-on Arduino based sensor development. No technical experience is necessary, but a background in STEM or education is a plus.



CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION


The Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC), a 200,000 square-foot facility in upper Manhattan, designed to promote collaboration among scientists in five areas of global research and innovation: nanoscience, photonics, structural biology, neuroscience, and environmental sciences.


The ASRC operates as a center of development of an integrated research network that brings together faculty, students, and post-doctoral fellows to perform cutting-edge science. The goal is to educate trainees in becoming the new leaders of tomorrow, by providing growth in increasingly inter-related disciplines of applied science.


The IlluminationSpace Hub is designed to fostering deep, ongoing collaboration between CUNY STEM and New York City communities, making science more responsive to local needs, and providing pathways to STEM education and careers for underrepresented and under-resourced groups. Our goal is to expand and deepen the way CUNY STEM facilitates science for the public good through programs that drive improvements in four areas: K-16+ STEM education, science communication, community-based science, and STEM workforce development.


Other Duties

The ASRC is seeking a part-time coordinator to assist program management of current and emerging programing within the ASRC IlluminationSpace Hub. This temporary position is funded through a grant in support of our work to establish a collective space for science communications, outreach, and education at CUNY. Extension of this position beyond the initial 12-month period is contingent on future funding and need.


The individual for this position must be highly organized and comfortable creating and managing systems that will help ensure successful and timely development of two of the IS Hub’s four components: The IlluminationSpace Youth Classroom and The Community Sensor Lab. This coordinator position will directly report to and assist the ASRC STEM Education and Outreach Manager. Responsibilities will include:


Scheduling and Coordinating in-person and virtual STEM youth programming for the IlluminationSpace and Community Sensor Lab Assist with development and organization of curriculum and educational assets Assist with budget tracking, purchasing, and intern timesheets Keep track of project deadlines and traffic communications and materials that help ensure their timely achievement Attend key planning meetings and distribute post-meeting notes Prepare and distribute correspondence as assigned Create and maintain mailing lists. Other duties as assigned

This position is a non-tax levy appointment supported by funds administered through the Research Foundation of The City University of New York. As such you will be considered an employee of the Research Foundation and will be subject to Research Foundation personnel policies and procedures for project employees. All appointments are subject to budgetary guidelines, fiscal constraints, and satisfactory performance assessment with no presumption of retention.


Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Bachelors degree or higher in STEM, social sciences, education or related field with 2-3 years of programming or project coordination experience


OTHER QUALIFICATIONS


Experience in urban STEM Education particularly in museums, after schools or summer programs Experience managing volunteers, interns and communications Strong organizational and project management skills Proficiency in Google Docs, Dropbox, and MS Office applications. Proficiency with Zoom meeting and webinar functions. Excels in collaborative and dynamic work environments
