At Oxford Instruments, we enable the world’s leading industrial companies and scientific research communities to image, analyse and manipulate materials down to the atomic and molecular level. Our customers use our NanoScience ultra-low temperature and high magnetic field environments to go beyond what was once thought possible, whether that’s creating Nobel Prize winning materials or developing quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
Do you care about the world that we live in, and do you want to make it a better place? Does the discovery of new materials excite you? Can you champion new products that will show our customers that we’re listening to them? If you answer yes to these questions, and you have what it takes to develop our vision of the future within the Physical Sciences sector, then read on.
This is an exciting new position, reporting directly to our Managing Director. You’ll act as a product segment champion, working collaboratively with our R&D team and our customers. We’re looking for someone who will develop knowledge of research trajectories, identify opportunities for growth, contribute to marketing campaigns, and build and nurture a network of contacts in the Physical Sciences.
To be credible and effective, you’ll need to bring Physical Sciences subject matter expertise (probably a relevant PhD, and potentially some post-doc experience) to the role.
You’ll also need to demonstrate a commercial way of thinking that shows you’re able to identify opportunities and create sustainable and profitable solutions for our customers. This does not necessarily need to be an industrial setting. It may be that you can demonstrate your commercial potential in a different way, based on your interests or part-time work. Alternatively, you may have industrial experience and are now looking for more ownership and the chance to take on a new role from scratch.
The opportunity
In this role, you’ll be responsible for product management and product marketing activities for the NanoScience portfolio of products within the Physical Sciences segment. This will include our current products, such as SpectromagPT and TeslatronPT, as well as future products, which your work will help to define.
Being responsible for product management and product marketing means you’ll be developing our product road map and promotional strategy, gathering and using market data and competitive analysis to ensure impactful product launches, using the ‘voice of the customer’ to identify areas for growth and working with our marketing team to develop communications and collateral that will energise product interest.
About You
To be successful in this role, it’s likely that you will have recently completed a PhD or a post-doc role in a Physical Sciences subject. An understanding of low temperature physics, ideally cryogenic measurement techniques, magnets and scientific instrumentation is desirable. It’s essential that you can work collaboratively and have excellent communication skills.
We’ll develop your knowledge and experience of marketing models, however it’s essential that you have the capability and willingness to learn and be creative – while maintaining your technical depth – as well as the ability to translate a product’s strengths into a clear value proposition for our customers. An entrepreneurial flare and desire to succeed within a commercial environment is a must for this role.
Benefits
In addition to a competitive starting salary, Oxford Instruments offers flexible working hours and a half-day on Fridays. We also offer 25 days annual leave, private healthcare, a share incentive plan, a defined contribution Group Personal Pension Plan, and a flexible benefits package that you can tailor to your own requirements. We also invest in our talented employees by supporting them in their ongoing career and development so that they reach their full potential. We care and work hard to provide a workplace where you can grow and learn. #LI-JR1
