The Materials Science and Engineering Department (MSE) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) is seeking a 9-month, tenure-track assistant professor to focus primarily on undergraduate teaching and research methodology and to teach introductory materials courses and materials laboratory sections. The selected applicant will be expected to teach in the Materials Science and Engineering Department as well as demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and research methodology. This position is expected to start in Spring 2022.
The MSE Department has 20 tenured/tenure-track faculty members (with NSF CAREER, ONR YIP), 25 affiliated faculty, and over 150 undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral scholars. Collaboration with researchers in academic departments, schools, and centers at UCF, including the Advanced Materials Processing and Analysis Center (AMPAC), the NanoScience Technology Center (NSTC), the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL), the Florida Solar Energy Center (FSEC), the College of Medicine, and the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences is encouraged and supported. Numerous opportunities for collaboration are available with external organizations and research centers located within a few miles of the UCF campus, including Siemens Energy, Lockheed Martin, and several hospitals in the Lake Nona Medical City, including UCF’s College of Medicine.

A Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering or a related discipline from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
Additional Minimum Requirements:
Creative teaching methodologies and strong commitment to teaching and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is preferred. Experience in virtualization of materials laboratory, online teaching, undergraduate and graduate level courses, and advance functional materials research is desired.
